Google Search

The question we were supposed to search up was, "How do the democratic and republican positions on 'fiscal cliff' differ?" The purpose was to limit the amount of outcomes. I first typed in the whole question, "How do the democratic and republican positions on'fiscal cliff' differ?" and what came up were four million and sixty thousand results. To narrow the results down, I had to use both "AND" plus "OR", in addition to the symbols "~", "-","+", or quotation marks. Although that narrowed down my options, what really helped me the most were the search tools.

When I put the time to "past hour" it narrowed the results down to seven hundred and eighty-four results. To narrow the results down even more, I took some words out of the original question and changed it to, "democratic and republican positions on 'fiscal cliff' differ" and putting the location to "nearby." That narrowed the results to four. Before today, I didn't know that there was a variety of ways I could narrow down my topic. However, I prefer to use the search tools along with making my words as specific as possible.

Fallen Hero

Every Hero has to fall at one point. In Star Wars Episode 3, Anakin Skywalker, the main character and the hero, had to make drastic decisions in order to become a Jedi to save his loved one. However, he made wrong choices which led him to the wrong direction. He soon became one of the most hated people because he betrayed his people. From then on, all he kept doing was making mistake after mistake.
In one point of the movie, Anakin finds out that the chancellor, a person protected, was coincided with the Dark Side. He was stunned, yet confident to tell the council. When he did, the council had no choice but to leave him behind because they couldn’t trust him; however, that didn’t stop Anakin from going with them. When the council found out that he was really evil, they arrested him after an extreme fight. But when one of the Jedi was about to kill the chancellor, Anakin got lost and made an immediate decision to cut off the Jedi’s hand. There, Anakin made the mistake by choosing the Dark Side and obeying the chancellor.
Another mistake he made was challenging his master who taught him everything. He went in combat with Obi Wan, a person who had the higher ground. Obi Wan was the person Anakin once looked up to, and Obi Wan believed Anakin was the one. It cost Anakin his legs, lungs, skin, wife, kids, basically everything he had. Now he has to live his life with a mask that helps him breathe and no family or friends to have his back. He has to be a slave to the chancellor.
A hero always has a chance to fix his or her mistake; however, he/she always chooses the wrong one. Anakin thought he was making the right choice in choosing the Dark Side to save his loved one. Little did he know, he was making the biggest mistake of his life. One chance of remaining a Jedi was when Padme, his wife, visited him on Mustafar. She told him to leave everything behind and to go with her to raise their child. He of course didn’t take the offer because he wanted to rule the world. He could have fixed his problem and lived happily with his wife and child, but he didn’t because he was too stubborn and evil.
It is easy to fall but it’s very difficult to come back to the top. Heroes are supposed to make the right choices that will protect people and make everything better. However, making a mistake, even a small one, is effortlessly. Anakin Skywalker was the hero in the beginning of Star Wars Episode 3 until he kept making mistakes after mistakes. He is considered a fallen hero because he lost the respect from his people all from one enormous error.

Proposition 30

I would want to vote yes on proposition 30 which is for education and public safety. Proposition 30 is saying that they want to raise taxes on the individuals who make $250 thousand a year and couples who make $500 thousand a year. One reason for this law to be passed is that it’s estimated that $6 billion will be given to schools and public safety. It is important to know that your child is safe from harm and in a good environment. Another reason is because our schools needs money. With more teachers, programs that were once canceled could be brought back. However, not everyone believes this proposition should be approved.
A reason for proposition 30 to not be passed is taxing can harm small businesses. People who are against proposition 30 are afraid that the extra taxes are going to harm their businesses. They are also afraid that the money won’t go to public safety and education. The money could be used for unnecessary projects. All the money that the tax payers pay could also be lost since the government isn’t really organized.
If I was 18, I would vote for proposition 30 because when I’m older, I wouldn’t want my children to be in danger. Hearing about all the shooting and vandalizing that some schools do scares me. It makes me wonder how the future schools would be like. Protecting my family would be the first thing I would want to do. It would make sense to me to pay more for our safety.

My Canterbury Tales

In the Canterbury Tales, there are a lot of characters I would want to be. The one that stuck out to me the most was the pardoner. The pardoner was an interesting character. He was a very mischievous person. His job was to get money from people in exchange for pardoning their sins. Being a pardoner was a hard job. He had to convince people to pay him to pardon their sins. A challenge that he faced on a daily basis was that people could turn him down and say no to him whenever he asks them for money. He also had to travel a lot to find new victims to ask for money so he didn’t have a specific area where he worked.

The pardoner’s hometown was France. Being a pardoner, you wouldn’t expect him to be married. His family on the other hand didn’t see him much because he’s always moving place to place. His mom didn’t do much and his dad was a knight. Although his dad was a knight, the pardoner had no military training.

The pardoner feels that the world is a terrible place to live in because of people going against the bible; that’s why he wants to pardon people’s sins. He is also a kind gentleman who values money. He believes that swearing, gambling, getting drunk and anything that’s bad are sins and people needed to be pardoned from them. Only for a small fee, he would be glad to do so. His future plan is to be the richest man alive and at this rate, he just might be.

Yeoman

The Yoeman wore a green coat with a hood. He carried a shield, sword, hunting horn tied to his belt, and bow and arrow across his chest. The arrows were colorful like a peacock and always faced down while the feathers faced the sky. His specialty was with wood but he also served a noble family. He may have had a tiny, brown head; however he was praised as a champion with a silver medal that rested on his chest.

"American Dream"

Everyone has a different “American Dream.”An “American Dream” can be a goal a person is aiming for. My “American Dream” is to become a veterinarian. By taking the classes I need in college, I will be able to achieve my dream. In order to do that, the internet would help me stay on track however; finding a veterinarian job and getting the right education will be hard.
Being a veterinarian is my dream. To find more information about it, I can use the internet. The internet can be useful. According to the article “Crazy” by Tony Dokoupil, “It made people happier and more productive.” The internet can make people stay on top of their stuff. It’s an easier and faster way to get information about something. However, the internet can be very distracting and addicting. In the article “Crazy”, Dokoupil says, “Teens fit some seven hours of screen time into the average school day; 11, if you count time spent multi-tasking on several devices.” That is, teens spend most of their time on the internet or on other devices. This can drastically affect my “American Dream” by making me procrastinate and spend all my time on the internet rather than taking the classes I need.
Going to college and taking the right classes to become a veterinarian will help me achieve my “American Dream.” However, it won’t be as easy as it seems. According to the article, “Generation Screwed” by Joel Kotkin, “Student loans have grown consistently over the last few decades to an average of $27,000 each.” It would be harder to get the classes I need because of the increasing student loans. Not only are student loans rising, but in the article, “Generation Screwed”, Kotkin states,“The public debt constitutes a toxic legacy handed over to offspring who will have to pay it off in at least three ways: through higher taxes, less infrastructure and social spending, and, fatefully, the prospect of painfully slow growth for the foreseeable future.” The generation I am in is at stake because we have to sacrifice a lot in order to pay for taxes and other things that are growing each year. This can affect my “American Dream” because there is a chance I won’t have enough money to afford college.
It is not easy to achieve ones “American Dream”, but it’s not impossible. My “American Dream” is to become a veterinarian. The internet can be easier and keep me organized however it can distract me and keep me from doing what I need to do. The economy isn’t the best, but if I manage my time and money well enough, I will be able to go to the school and take the classes I want. At this point, my “American Dream” will be hard to accomplish, but I won’t let anything get in my way from doing so.

College entrance

Colleges are supposed to be professional. People shouldn’t apply to colleges if they don’t want to go. If students aren’t willing to put in the effort to do well in their classes, colleges should have the right to take away their entrance to their campuses. Colleges have the right to take away their entrance to their campuses because it saves room for the people who actually want and deserve to go to college and students who take don’t take things too seriously will not be prepared to do college work.
Students apply for college for a reason; they want to learn and get their education. However, some people go to college just to slack off and do nothing all year. Those people ruin the chances for the people who actually want to be there. Students who have the means may not have the knowledge of someone less fortunate. High school, if you apply yourself, will give you the materials for college.
High school students think that senior year is all fun and games since it’s the last year of high school. They want to relax and enjoy their senior year. Little do they know, they’re ready for a rude awakening. Senior year is one of the most important years in high school. It may not be the easiest year, but it’s preparing you for college. If you aren’t able to handle the work high school gives you, you aren’t ready for college because college is twice as hard.
The biggest mistake someone can make is not trying their best in high school. Colleges look at your transcripts and check if you’re eligible to go to that school. If you don’t have the right grades or manners, colleges have the right to deny you because there are people who actually want to be there and college work isn’t the same as high school work. College is a good opportunity to start your life; high school is where you begin.

Senior Year Highlights:

What am I looking forward for Senior year?...

Senior year means senior project, senior ball, and especially graduating. I am looking forward for having a great last year. That means NO procrastinating, NO messing around, strictly business. But of course, the occasional of having fun! I want to make this year as memorable as I can.

My first semester of Senior Year will be kind of hard. I am taking semi-hard classes, a class at skyline, and also trying to keep up with a job. I won't get much sleep, but I'm not giving up. My goal is to try my best to keep a minimum GPA of AT LEAST 3.8, if not 4.0. It'll be difficult, but it'll be a fun experience. I can't wait to see what else is in store for me for the upcoming year!
